While New Orleans is considered the Birthplace of Jazz, Wilmington, Delaware is an important part of jazz history. Clifford Brown was the most influential trumpeter of his generation. Brown was born and lived in Wilmington until his untimely death in a car accident at the age of 25. In addition to multiple performances by leading jazz musicians and ensembles, the annual Clifford Brown Jazz Festival includes The Boysie Lowery Living Jazz Residency program for both established and aspiring artists. Lowery was Clifford Brown’s Jazz Teacher. The 36th Clifford Brown Festival will take place from June 21 – 24. Tina Betz, Director of the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs and Curator of the Festival provides details.
